JR7 Baseball Conquers at Boombah

JR7 Baseball 14u knocked off SACSN 6-2 on Sunday afternoon to win the Battle at Boombah championship.

Sanford, FL — The Florida sun was relentless Sunday afternoon at Boombah Sports Complex, where the turf felt like it added another ten degrees to the already 90-degree heat. But not even the oppressive weather could cool off JR7 Baseball, who stormed out of the gate and never looked back, defeating SACSN 6-2 in the 14U Championship game of a three-day, 10-team tournament.

From the moment JR7 stepped inside those white lines, the game was on. JR7 swiftly put up three quick runs in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on sharp base running, aggressive swings, and an early SACSN error.

On the flip side, SACSN couldn’t find their rhythm in the bottom of the first, going down scoreless against JR7's starter, Cebasthian Morillo (2029, FL). Morillo wasted no time setting the tone, attacking the strike zone with a fastball that consistently sat between 75-78 mph and keeping hitters off balance with a bigger 65 mph curveball.

JR7 added more pressure just two innings later, plating another trio of runs to extend their lead to 6-0. SACSN wasn’t going to roll over, though. They punched back in the bottom of the third, stringing together hits to drive in two runs, narrowing the score to 6-2.

That would be the final time either team would dent the scoreboard.

From the fourth inning on, both squads dug in defensively. SACSN tightened up in the field, while JR7 handed the ball off to Roberto Torres (2029, FL) who slammed the door in relief. Torres delivered two hitless innings, issuing just two walks while striking out three. Working with a 70-75 mph fastball and his own 65 mph curveball, Torres kept SACSN chasing and guessing.

At the plate, JR7's Cristian Torres (2028, FL) stood out as the offensive spark. He went a perfect 2-for-2 in the championship game, capping off a strong tournament performance in which he hit .364 over five games. His ability to drive the ball and control the zone helped anchor JR7’s consistent offense throughout the weekend.

Chemistry seemed to be the key word of the weekend for JR7. That chemistry, according to their head coach, is the team’s identity.

"When we face a competitive team like SACSN," he said after the win, "we have to fight with all we got. We're a family out there and I think we do a good job playing like it."

And no one embodied that fight more than their MVPitcher Cebasthian Morillo.

“You definitely can feel the nerves when you step on that mound,” Morillo said postgame. “But when you come out to win... that starts to overcome every other feeling. When I’m on the mound, my mindset is to focus and throw strikes, trust the defense, and don’t be scared.”

Asked about which pitch was working best, Morillo didn’t hesitate: “Fastball all day!” he answered.

With a championship trophy in hand and a full team effort from first pitch to final out, JR7 Baseball proved that playing like family isn’t just a mindset — it’s a formula for winning.
