Beast of the East Event Preview: Youth

John McAdams
Less than a week from now, some of the most talented teams and players will converge on Publix Sports Park in Panama City Beach, Florida for the 2nd Edition of The Beast of the East Super 8 Invitational. Twenty-three nationally ranked teams will be in attendance within the 9-12U Age Group, as the teams and players will surely bring their best. The atmosphere will be electric with every game offering a championship game like scenario. This gauntlet will be contested over three days and provides another opportunity for our selection committee to see players vying for 11 & 12U Select Festival invitations. We will continue our identification throughout the summer with plenty of Super Regional NITs to be played, along with our National World Series at the beautiful East Cobb Complex and culminates with our 11 & 12U Perfect Game National Invitational Championship at the beautiful Snowden Grove Complex in Southaven, Mississippi where final selections for this year’s 11 & 12U Select Festivals will be made.

The 9 & 10U Age Groups will be filled with plenty of talent as TBT National White represents the highest ranked team in attendance in both groups. The 9U version is ranked #5 in our latest Travel Team Rankings. The 10U squad sits atop the rankings, as someone will be looking to potentially unseat them in PCB. Ethan Palacios, Daylon McCants and Brett Hamlin have been the catalyst for TBT thus far in 2023 and should continue to be bright spots for them. Wow Factor Nation will certainly be a team to watch in the 10U group, as they have been highly successful thus far in 2023 and come in with a 38-8-1 record. Tripp Gill, Brady Cooper Maynor and Slade Skinner lead the way for this talented collection of players. The East Cobb Astros 10U Orange and Diamond Elite 10U-Diaz/Bitz come in at #10 & #11 nationally and should provide plenty of competition within that age bracket.

The 11/12U Age Groups is chalk full of nationally ranked squads with 14 Top 25 teams amongst the participants including 4 top 10 teams at 11U and 6 of the top 10 teams at 12U. The rosters are filled with tons of talent including 16 Select Festival alumni among the 12U teams that will be in PCB this upcoming weekend.

At 11U, Prime Baseball Lujan comes into the weekend as our #1 team in the most recent Travel Teams Rankings updates and will look to further their hold on the top spot. Fabio Fumai, Trevarus Albury Jr. and Landen Davis will look to lead their squad through the tantalizing collection of talent. Trevor Lujan will play a pivotal role on the mound and will be counted upon in one of their highly anticipated matchups. They will be challenged by the likes of Let Them Play-Citi and SBA Bolts National, as their rosters are littered with talent. Oliver Emmons-Boden is an exciting talent that will be a name to watch as he has performed well at various Perfect Game events this past year.

Team NuYork Elite is a Northeast based squad that will be looking to show the rest of the country exactly how talented they are. Jesse Soberal Jr. and Maykel Jimenez have had explosive starts to their 2023 seasons so look for them to be important factors in Team NuYork’s potential success. Ryan Lemm could be the X-factor on the mound with big matchups throughout the entirety of the event.

Let’s not forget about the Central Florida Suns-Bono and Homeplate Chilldogs Glozier, as they are both ranked within the top 10 of our 11U Travel Team Rankings. Both rosters have tons of talent throughout, are well-coached and have been battle tested already this season.

The battle at 12U will bring plenty of fireworks as 4 of the top 5 in the country will battle it out to see who will come out on top.

Braves Baseball Academy comes into the event as the #1 squad but will surely be tested by the #2 Elite RBI, #3 ZT National Prospects, #4 Prime Baseball Lujan and #7 SBA Bolts National, all of whom are currently ranked within the top 8 of our latest Travel Team Rankings. Jordan Leon has been a force on both sides of the ball for the Braves, as he will be counted upon both offensively and on the mound. Louis Lappe, a Select Festival alum, and Mateo Mier are other names to watch for the Braves, as they look to leave PCB with another monster tournament victory like they did back in March where they took home the title at our loaded Houston Super Regional NIT.

Elite RBI will come into the event with a 62-6 record and a roster that bolsters 6 Select Festival alum including 2022 Player of the Year Quinn Neal, as they will look to navigate the bevy of talent that will be on display. Christopher Polanco has been an offensive force in 2023, coming into the event hitting .638 and has already hit 27 home runs. Landon Adkison, Amari Maxwell and Jimmy Tipton are fellow Festival alums that will be counted upon to provide big game experience within the lineup.

Not to be lost amongst the previous two teams is ZT National Prospects and the immense talent they will bring to town this weekend. The #3 ranked squad has Select Festival alums of their own in Kannon Derry and Easton Housewright and they can impact the game in a variety of ways. Nateo Victorio is one of the more exciting players within the age group to watch hit and is certainly a player to keep a watchful eye on throughout the weekend. Trent O'Malley is a name we’ve come to know quite well as he brings firepower on both sides of the baseball. Look for him to be in the center of all the action for the uber-talented ZT team as they look to make a deep playoff run.

Prime Baseball Lujan, SBA Bolts National and Gold Culture are the other top 10 ranked teams within the field and they will look to ascent up the rankings and take home this premier event. Storm Baseball and 5 Star National Mid-Atlantic Mafia complete the eight teams that will be participating. Every roster has stand out performers and Players to Watch, so we will continue to highlight players leading up to the event.

The amount of talent amongst the rosters is certainly noteworthy as we continue to take notice of all the outstanding performances across the country. We use premier events such as this to identify those who have stood out throughout the year, which will culminate in making our final selections for the 2023 Select Festival during the Perfect Game Invitational Championship this July. This year’s 11 & 12U Festival will once again be held at the beautiful East Cobb Complex on August 6th (11U) and August 13th (12U).
