Team Sheet: Miami

Vincent Cervino
Players Covered: Gage Ziehl, Karson Ligon, Andrew Walters, Alejandro Rosario, Yohandy Morales, CJ Kayfus, Zach Levenson, Carlos Perez, Blake Cyr

What Happened: Miami dropped a road series against in-state rival Florida, securing the win on Saturday but losing two of three overall. The pitching surrendered 30 runs over 3 games and though Miami has a high-scoring offense, it wasn’t enough to keep up.

Carrying Tool: Juice and more juice. The Miami offense has length to it as even the bottom of their lineup was able to homer a couple of times during the series. Yohandy Morales leads in that power department but guys like Zach Levenson and CJ Kayfus will also add to that as the season progresses.

Concerns: Starting Pitching. All three of Miami’s weekend starters got hit around with Alejandro Rosario getting the worst of it on Sunday. Gage Ziehl was a big helium guy heading into this season but his ERA is currently double digits while Karson Ligon was really good in the first half of 2022 but has struggled since. Miami has the talent to have a good starting staff but their arms are going to have to produce.

Best Player on the Field: Yohandy Morales. Miami’s 6-foot-4, 225-pound third baseman looks every bit like the projected first rounder he was entering the year, announcing his presence on his first swing with a moon shot homer. He’s got some of the best power in the class and looks like he’s made a couple of two strike adjustments that have bolstered the hit tool.
