15u World Series Scout Notes: Day 1

On the mound for the 8:00 AM start for the Midland Redskins 15u was Gabriel Winans (2025, North Richland Hills, Texas). The 6-foot-1, 165-pound RHP displayed good athleticism and a free, easy delivery that he repeated very well. Winans uses a simple, inline delivery where he hinges slightly over his toes at balance and works directly down the mound. His arm path is full and slightly behind his body, but he consistently gets it loaded at foot strike as he works through his three-quarter arm angle. He competed at a high level, mixing his fastball, curveball and slider for strikes with regularity. The heater sustained low-80s velocity peaking at 85 mph, while his upper-60s vertical breaker and low-70s sweeping slider created good swing-and-miss to his arsenal. The uncommitted arm finished his outing with 4 innings, giving up 1 hit, no runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
