Rousselle "Rookie" Shepard (Las Vegas, Nev.) will likely draw a crowd every time he plays for the rest of his baseball career with people wanting to see what the hype is all about. The box score may show a 0-for-1 from Friday night, but that certainly doesn’t tell the whole story for the country’s No. 1 ranked player. The University of Miami commit found the barrel twice in the night cap both times hitting the ball on the screws right at a defender. He was able to pick up a sac fly with his line out to center field as his USA Prime club picked up a 5-0 win to open the National Elite Championship. The left-handed swing shows so many god traits starting with the bat speed and intent through the zone. He showed a subtle weight shift into contact which when timed up right gives him a little extra juice off the barrel. On the other side of the ball he played a fine third base, making plays coming in on the baseball as well as cutting off the angle working to his left while doing a nice job of staying low through the ball with the hips and making strong accurate throws.
