PG Tech Game Changers: Stretch

What is Stretch?

Stretch is a measurement of the difference at any point in time during your swing between the rotation of your torso against the rotation of your pelvis. In the PG Tech Cage, it is measured at two different points: stretch gained at foot strike during your load, and stretch at contact with the ball.

What does that mean?

Players can generally be classified as tight or loose movers during their swing. Stretch numbers will look different for different movers.

Tight movers should typically see between 1-15 degrees of stretch gained at foot strike, while loose movers should see 20 or more degrees. The stretch gained is your torso moving away from your pelvis during the load portion of your swing.

Players should see that stretch closing at contact, with the stretch at contact metric on your PG Tech Profile somewhere between 10 and -10 degrees. If your stretch at contact is closing, it simply means your torso is catching up to your pelvis and you are creating speed during your swing, which then leads to higher exit velocity.

Jackson Holliday, a top-10 player in the 2022 class, is a loose mover. When Holliday hit in the PG Tech Cage at the Perfect Game All-American Classic last summer, his stretch gained at foot strike was 28.92 degrees, and his stretch at contact was -2.95.
