Iowa Select 2022 Norgren kept the bats hot on a cold day at Prospect Meadows, smashing 20 hits en route to a 13-1 victory over DRBA Krogman 23. Despite having a whopping 20 hits, Norgren’s Jaxon Brooks (2022, Burlington, Iowa) was the only batter in the lineup to produce a spotless line, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple. The loudest of all three extra-base hits had to be his triple in the fourth inning, a towering shot which landed at the base of fence in left-center field. The Mesa CC commit found himself in a 3-1 hitter’s count, and he took full advantage of the elevated fastball that he was thrown. Brooks’ swing was a thing of beauty, as he got the barrel on plane early and made contact out in front of the plate, while creating maximum amounts of leverage with his lower half. We have always known that he has advanced strength within the swing, and he tends to elevate and get the barrel turned over on a regular basis. This was just another display of his massive power potential, and he will certainly be a legitimate homerun threat at the next level.

Kinnick Pusteoska (2022, Solon, Iowa) would end up driving Brooks in after his triple, by way of a laser to center field that ended as a sac fly. Although he did not find any luck during that at-bat, Pusteoska would not go home empty handed, as he finished the day 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, the left-handed hitter fits the bill of a prototypical, power-hitting first baseman. And what’s even more exciting is that, although he is strong and physical currently, there is plenty more room to fill moving forward. It doesn’t take much for the Tennessee Tech commit to generate leverage, as his swing is quiet and simple. He stays upright throughout, and his low hand set allows him to create lift more easily. The offensive upside is quite obvious, and he could develop into a dangerous power threat during his time in college.
