Northeast All Region & Top Tools

NORTHEAST REGION (NY, CT, MA, RI, VT, NH, ME) 
The strength of the Northeast Region in 2026 is the number of high ceiling power arms, led by potential upper-90’s throwers in left-hander Brody Bumila and right-hander Bryce Hill.  The depth of quality pitching is such that two of the top pitchers in the 2028 class, right handers Gavin Chakar (Norwalk HS, Conn.) and Dylan Cunningham (Austin Prep, Mass.) didn’t have a spot on the team. 

The weakness of the Region is the increasing number of players who leave to play baseball and continue their school work at Academy programs in the South.  Numerous players that fit under that umbrella would have a place on the All-Northeast Region if they weren’t in Florida or the Carolinas.



C – Bradley McCafferty (Sr., Austin Prep, Mass.)

McCafferty was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Massachusetts as a junior after hitting .367-2-23 and leading Austing Prep to a 20-2 record.  The right-handed hitter followed up by posting near-identical .351-3-22 numbers in 32 games of PG play.  A strong defender with big arm strength, McCafferty is signed with Virginia.

1B – Ryan Yormack (Jr., Bellmore JFK HS, N.Y.)

The 6-3/215 Yormack is the 85th ranked prospect in the 2027 class nationally and the 5th ranked first baseman.  An athletic player with 6.98 speed and a near-90 mph throwing arm, Yormack’s best tool, though, is obviously his right-handed bat speed.  He hit.383-5-29 in 22 games of PG play in 2025 and has dominated at the plate during summers since being on the 2023 PG Select Festival roster.  He and his twin brother Derek (below) are committed to Vanderbilt.

MIF – Ryan Ventrelle (Sr., Fairfield College Prep, Conn.)

The 5-10/175 Ventrelle is a speedy left-handed hitter who stands out as a left-handed hitter with outstanding barrel skills and ideal lead-off skills.  He walked 26 times in 28 games as a junior at Fairfield Prep while hitting .424-1-23 and followed up by walking 29 times in 39 games of PG play while hitting .448-2-18.  Ventrelle is signed with Notre Dame.

MIF – Aiden Ruiz (Sr., The Stony Brook School, N.Y.)

Ruiz is the lone PG All-American in the Northeast Region and is currently ranked 13th overall in the 2026 class nationally.  He was the starting shortstop for the Gold Medal winning USA 18U National Team while hitting .379 but especially stands out for his defense and overall athleticism.  Ruiz is signed with Vanderbilt.

3B – Alexander Jendras (Sr., John Jay East Fishkill, N.Y.)

Jendras was one of the top hitters in the Northeast as a junior, posting .4.63-5-24 numbers in 18 games and also hit .397-2-32 in 26 games of PG play.  He’s also plenty tooled up, with 6.67 speed in the sixty and a 93 mph arm off the mound.  Jendras is signed with Houston and could very well be a two-way standout for the Cougars.

OF – Colin Raymond (So., The Stony Brook School, N.Y.)

Raymond stands out physically as a 6-3/205 chiseled 16-year old and that strength really plays well at the plate with his left-handed bat speed.  Raymond hit .310-2-24 in 36 games of PG play in 2025 and .403-2-48 in 60 games in 2024 and is also a 6.84 runner.  He’s the 37th ranked prospect nationally in the 2028 class.

OF – Francis Conners-Schmid (So. Salisbury HS, N.Y.)

Connors-Schmid is the second of two highly ranked sophomore outfielders on this All-Region team and checks in at 28th overall in the 2028 class nationally.  Already physically strong and mature at 6-2/215 despite just turning 16, Conners-Schmid has outstanding left-handed bat speed that already registers big 100+ EV’s and shows up in games as well.   He profiles in right field with an arm that is nearing 90 mph and solid speed for his size.

OF – Vaughan Steinert (Jr., The Stony Brook School, N.Y.)

Steinert’s stock rose quickly in the fall as the left-handed hitter was named MVP of the 17U PG Fall World Series and committed to Clemson.  A strong-armed center fielder, Steinert has big bat speed and power potential and hit .357-3-14 in 26 PG games in 2025.  He’s also a high-level hockey player.

LHP – Brody Bumila (Sr., Bishop Feehan HS, Mass.)

Bumila didn’t pitch in 2025 after undergoing UCL surgery on his elbow but he was on track to become one of the top pitchers in the 2026 before that, topping out at 96-97 mph from an extra big and tall 6-9/255 build.  He will be closely followed this spring by scouts to monitor his recovery and would otherwise be attending Texas.  Bumila is also a high-level basketball player during the winter.

LHP – Owen Burnes (Jr., Dexter Southfield HS, Mass.) 

Burnes re-classified from the 2028 class to the 2027 class and will play all the spring and summer seasons at 16 years old.  He’s a strong and athletic 6-3/210 southpaw who is touching 90 mph to go with two quality breaking balls, including a mid-70’s curveball that generates 2900+ rpm spin rates.  Burnes is committed to Auburn.

RHP – Bryce Hill (Sr., Greenwich Country Day, Conn.)

The 6-5/220 Hill has an electric right arm that regularly produces mid-90’s fastballs and with his arm speed and remaining projection as a 17 year old, there is plenty of potential still there.  The Stanford commit also throws a low-80’s slider and change up.  He is the top ranked player in the state of Connecticut and 133rd nationally.

RHP – RHP David Hinojosa (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

Poly Prep Country Day always seems to find and produce power arms and Hinojosa is the latest example.  He’s been up to 96 mph with his fastball to go with a upper 70’s curve and mid-80’s change up.  He struck out 49 hitters in 40 innings as a junior while going 2-1, 1.21 in 10 games.

RHP – Kaiden McCarthy (Sr., Vermont Academy, Ver.)

McCarthy has always stood out on the prospect circuit as the very rare top prospect from Vermont.  A Tennessee commit, he re-classified from the 2027 to the 2026 class just this January and will turn 18-years old just after the July draft.  McCarthy features a fastball that has touched 95 mph at PG events and higher elsewhere to go with a power curveball and quality change up.  He is currently ranked 62nd in the 2026 class rankings nationally.

UT – Derek Yormack (Jr., Bellmore JFK HS, N.Y.)

Not surprisingly, Yormack has almost the same physical and tool profile as his brother, Ryan, only with a bit less juice in his bat and more strength in his arm.  He works in the 91-93 mph primarily with his fastball and is a strike thrower, having struck out 68 hitters in 38 innings of PG play the last two years while only walking 15 hitters and throwing 63% strikes.  Derek is ranked 44th nationally in the 2027 class.


Northeast Region Top Tools


Best Hitter for Average: Aiden Ruiz (Sr., The Stony Brook School, N.Y.)

In addition to hitting .379 for Team USA, Ruiz has hit over .400 on solid volume the last three years of PG play.  He’s a switch-hitter with better bat speed and barrel control from the left side of the plate.

Best Hitter for Power: Ryan Yormack (Jr., Bellmore JFK HS, N.Y.) 

Yormack has had prodigious power since a young age and it’s always played in the games.  Expect big performance from both he and his brother throughout 2026.

Best Runner: Aiden Ruiz (Sr., The Stony Brook HS, N.Y.)

Ruiz isn’t a plus-plus runner in the traditional sense but he plays so fast on both sides of the ball that his quickness and athleticism really stand out.  This is especially true of his range on defense.

Best Defensive Catcher: Julian Martinez (So. The Stony Brook School, N.Y.)

Martinez is a four-time PG Select Festival participant who has the tools and instincts to dominate a game defensively.  He’s the 4th ranked catcher in the 2028 class and the 45th overall prospect nationally.

Best Defensive Infielder: Aiden Ruiz (Sr., The Stony Brook HS, N.Y.)

Ruiz was awarded the Perfect Game Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2025 for best defensive player in the 2025 class.  He’s one of those players who is exceptionally fun to watch play for his energy and creativeness along with his ability to make all the plays.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Vaughan Steinert (Jr., The Stony Brook School, N.Y.)

Steinert’s athleticism shows well in center field and he has the arm strength to play all over the outfield.

Best Defensive Arm: Alexander Jendras (Sr., John Jay East Fishkill, N.Y.)

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Jendras end up as a two-way standout at the college level, as the arm strength and pitchability, not to mention the athleticism, all seem to fit.

Best Fastball: Brody Bumila (Sr., Bishop Feehan HS, Mass.)

This is still an open question with Bumila coming back from elbow surgery but the surgery was in 2024 so he’s had lots of time to recover.  The scouting community will be watching carefully.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Owen Burnes (Jr., Dexter Southfield HS, Mass.) 

Burnes is still developing the command aspect of pitching, but for raw stuff and the ability to spin the ball he’s already there.

Best Pitchability: Kaiden McCarthy (Jr., Vermont Academy, Ver.)

The 6-0/190 McCarthy has command of all three of his pitches and has consistently thrown well above his age group in the summers.  He is the type that could end up contributing at Tennessee as a freshman even with his re-classification.

Another few weeks have wrapped up this high school season as we’re flying through the spring and most southern states are starting playoffs right around the corner. With the end of the regular season, we have another National Top 50 update to bring to you, along with this will be the start of the weekly editions of our National Top 50. We have a change at the top of the rankings as Venice (FL) takes over the top spot after just dominating their competition in the state of Florida this year. Orange Lutheran (CA) drops one spot to No. 2 after dropping a series but still holds firm at No. 2 in the country. Barbe (LA) has continued to dominate and holds onto the No. 3 spot while Tomball (TX) skyrockets in this update to No. 4 in the country, currently holding an incredible 30-0-1 record. April 21st Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Tague Davis, IF, Louisville  The Louisville Cardinals (22-18) haven’t been able to get themselves in much of a groove this spring, their longest winning streak is 5-games, and they are (4-6) in their last 10-games.  The issue has not been the offense as the Cardinals are averaging over 8-runs per game and Tague Davis is leading the club in virtually every offensive category.  His calling card is his 70-grade power and that was on display last weekend in their series against Cal.  In the three-game series, Davis went 7 for 12, scoring 4 runs, launching 5 home runs and collected 7 RBIs.  The 6-4/220 lefthanded hitter from West Chester, PA has a pure stroke, is one of the premier power hitters in the nation and has significantly improved his plate discipline from a year ago.  After his big weekend, he is...

As the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end” and that was the case last Tuesday when UCLA (36-3) saw their 27-game win streak come to an end in a shutout loss to UCSB.  However, the No. 1 team in the land still has their 21-game winning streak in Big Ten to protect, as they have started off league play without a single blemish.  The Bruins will remain atop our poll this week and their historical start to the season roll on.  The UNC Tarheels (33-7-1) move up to No. 2 this week after they made their biggest statement of the year by taking the weekend series from now No. 4 Georgia Tech (32-7).  No. 3 Texas (30-8) and No. 5 Georgia (32-9) both went (3-1) on the week and won their SEC series to stay in contention for the regular season title.  Florida State (28-11) had a nice bounce back (4-0) week and re-enter the Top 10 at No. 8 this...

Joining them in the top 5, coming off an undefeated week of their own, is Florence-Darlington, a team we have consistently had as a top 10 team all season long. Cloud County and Midland College continue to put together strong weeks and climb the rankings each week it seems.
