13u Elite 24 Scout Notes

Teams from across the Midwest met in Kansas City to compete in the PG 13U Elite 24 Scouting Showcase this past week. The talent of these young ladies was impressive and encouraging to see for the upcoming generations of softball players.

Alexis Lorennij (2027, Cave Springs, Ark.) from Vision Gold 09 is a catcher who is valuable to any team she is on. Her presence behind the plate is calm, yet she is in control of the game and directing her teammates to where the next play is. Lorennij frames the ball well and has a nice confidence about her playing style. She has a strong arm and has the coaches contemplating before sending their girls to steal second base. She caught three runners stealing. Her bat is equally as clutch as her presence behind the plate, as she had two doubles this weekend, and 3 RBI with an average of .386 this season.

Daylyn Osborne (2027, Bentonville, Ark.) was the MV-Pitcher of the tournament as a right-handed pitcher for the Vision Gold 09. She is a standout for this age division, as she consistently throws between 55-58 mph, has a screw, curve, change, rise, rise/screw and a rise/curve, an impressive arsenal for a young athlete. All the pitches have tight spin, move in and out of the zone appropriately, and is able to mix speeds like her 53 mph change and her 55 mph curveball.

Laney Van Es (2027, Centeron, Ark.) has potential to be a D-I infielder if she continues to play and progress beyond her performance this weekend. Every ball that was hit to the left side, she was all over. I love her tenacity at third base, and she has the fundamentals down and makes the routine plays that win ball games. She also goes all out and I saw her diving all over the field for bunts that were left up in the air and foul balls she had a chance at. She gets the job done at the plate as well, with an average of .286 this weekend, with a double and an RBI.

Lola Kirby (2027, Siloam Springs, Ark.) is a true power hitter. She has a beautiful swing; it’s smooth, straight to the ball, she keeps her hands inside, engages her legs, and finishes with a long extension through the ball. Kirby scored 3 runs, had 4 RBI, a double, and a triple. She is a right-handed pitcher and utility player.

Molly Jones (2027, Grain Valley, Mo.) is a right-handed pitcher, who also plays third base and outfielder for Select Fastpitch. Jones had a great weekend in KC, throughout 5 games and 6 innings pitched she had 8 strikeouts and allowed no hits and no runs scored. Her velocity came in at 52-54 mph. Her bat was working as well, as she had a home run, a triple, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI.

Kylee Wyman (2027, Bentonville, Ark.) was the defensive MVP for the weekend as the shortstop for the Vision Gold 09. She has a great glove that is like a magnet. The duo of her at short and her teammate Laney Van Es make the left side hard to get anything through. Her play style is calm and collected, and she is not easily rattled by intense situations on the bases. She stays down and moves through ground balls. Kylee also has a bat with some pop, as she had a double, triple, two sac flies, two stolen bases, and scored two runs. Overall, she is a key member of her team and makes an impact on every play that comes her way.
