Perfect
Game National Showcase Draft Results
Leading up to 2007
Perfect Game National Showcase in Cincinnati is a perfect time to talk
about last year’s PG National and the results from 2007 MLB draft.
It was June of 2006 inFayetteville, AR.
Perfect Game’s National Showcase was held one full year before the 2007
draft, as always. All players
invited were selected based mostly on their sophomore year because invitations
started going out before the 2006 high school season was underway.
It is difficult picking the best prospects in the country so
very early, but here are the results.
Remember that these players were selected for the PG National before their
junior year started.
The Perfect Game National
is the #1 Showcase event in amateur baseball.
The MLB clubs and top colleges are fully aware of this even if
the general public isn’t aware. It’s
been this way for a long time as past PG
National Showcases have produced the highest number of first round selections
of any other showcase event.
Perfect Game also selects all the Aflac
Classic All Americans each year.
The nationally televised Aflac All American Classic is the number one event in
high school baseball. In just four
years, 43 Aflac All American’s have been
selected in the first round.
That makes it more than one out of every
four Aflac All Americans that have become first round picks.
Many others were selected in the second round.
Over 100 players from
this one showcase last year, were selected by MLB clubs in the draft last week.
There were nearly 100 college
players selected who had been at past PG National Showcases.
This one small prestigious showcase accounted for 16% of the entire
draft.
17 first round picks attended
last year’s PG National Showcase and 10
more PG National players were second/third round selections.
In the first 20 rounds over 80% of
the players selected had been to Perfect Game events (510 players).
This includes an overall record 54
players from PG events who were selected in the first round this year.
The final totals will not be available until later database checks are
complete, but it looks like last year’s
record of 952 draft picks who attended PG events will be broken, even
though there were 48 fewer overall draft picks this year.
Below is a list of the high school players drafted
this year who appeared at the PG National in
Arkansas
in June of 06. We apologize if we
missed a few. Also, it should be
noted that many of last year’s PG National players were not drafted because of
strong college commitments. Some
of those players were potential early picks.
Nearly every PG National player has signed
with a highest level DI program.
