LHP Darryl Jones (Spring, TX): Jones is a primary outfielder and was one of the top position prospects at the Showcase. He threw an inning and showed his arm strength, throwing 84-86 mph with a quick overhand arm action. It has been reported that he's touched 90s in the past, but he's very much a top outfielder for the draft. Daryl Jones- OF- Spring HS, Spring, TX- 6'0"/180. Jones has a very athletic and strong body, and was one of the best position prospects at the event. He ran a 6.69-sixty, and he threw 86 mph from the OF with good carry and little effort. At the plate, Jones has a good hand load with a short stride and very good bat speed. He has power potential, and can already drive the gaps with authority. He has a great combination of tools for the next level. He reminds us a bit of former PG Predraft player and MLB all star Carl Crawford. Carl ran a bit better, but Daryl has a better arm. Jones has signed with Rice.

Jones is one of the top prospects in the underclassmen showcase. He has one of the most athletic bodies in the class posting impressive numbers in the workout. He stands 6 foot 1 and weighs just 165 pounds projecting off the charts. He threw from right field at 88 mph and he ran a 6.90 in the 60 looking faster than that in the games. His actions are easy, quick and he can flat out cover ground in center field. On one ball hit to deep center field he showed his jump, closing speed and route to the ball which had to be perfect and he made a Major League catch that could have won an ESPY. He showed flashes of Willie Mays in the outfield and then took to the plate and drove the opposite gap hard. He showed all field hitting ability in batting practice and he is one prospect that needs to be followed close for the 2005 draft. There can't be many better.

Good, projectable young 05. Going to be a plus runner with a MLB average arm. Very thin, but he can really swing the bat. Quick hands, short to the ball and good finish. This kid is the real deal and projects off the charts.
