Zachary Thoma is a 2007 3B/MIF with a 5'11'', 175 lb. frame from Omaha NE, who attends Creighton Prep. He has a strong build and some physical maturity. Thoma played all three infield positions and looked most comfortable and natural at shortstop. He has a strong and accurate arm with a quick release, especially when he's on the move. Thoma tended to aim the ball and lay back on the routine plays, but when he had to come to the ball he really looked good. Offensively, Thoma has an aggressive power type approach. He has some lift and extension in his swing and does a very good job hitting through the ball. He showed some loft power to right centerfield when he got his hands extended and is going to drive the ball up the gaps. We also appreciated Thoma's hustle and attitude on the field; he comes from a baseball background (his father played minor league ball up to AAA) and it's obvious that Thoma likes being on the field. He has solid physical tools and looks like a performer. Thoma is also a good student.
