Marcus Knecht is a 2008 OF with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Toronto, ON who attends St Michael's College School. He has a lean and well proportioned athletic build and some present strength. Knecht shows you all the basic physical tools you want to see in a top prospect. He ran the 60 in 6.76 and shows a very strong arm and makes accurate, on line throws. He'll be able to play the outfield at a high level physically. Offensively, Knecht doesn't have a textbook swing but he has very good bat speed and does a lot of things well. He starts from a spread, almost bow legged approach and takes a hard aggressive swing. He uses his hips well to help him generate bat speed. Knecht has stiff arms at contact and his swing looks long but it works for him. He has a very mature approach in terms of pitch selection and doesn't chase pitches and jumps on balls he can handle. His swing is on a line drive plane now and he showed consistent gap type power but he lofted a few over the fence in BP as well. He's a good all around talent who knows how to play and plays hard. Knecht is also a good student.

Marcus Knecht is a 2008 OF/P with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from Toronto ON, who attends St Michael's CHS. He has a good athletic frame, with some present strength and the chance to get stronger with work. Knecht is a 7.00 runner who threw 85 mph during outfield drills with a low release point. Most outfielders who throw with this release point have trouble with accuracy but Knecht was right on the bag with every throw. He moved well in games and looks like a solid defender. Offensively, Knecht does a very good job of getting his hips and lower half into his swing and using all his strength to create bat speed. He has a line drive swing plane and tends to keep his hands tight and short to the ball. He made consistent line dirve contact to all fields and flashed some gap to gap power. He should continue to improve as a hitter as he gets stronger, especially if he learns to extend though the ball more. Knecht also pitched a bit, throwing 80 mph from a high 3/4's release point with a clean, fluid motion and a sharp biting 68 mph curveball. He might be able to throw harder from his more natural outfield release point. Knecht is a good overall athlete with developing baseball skills who has not reached his peak. He's a good follow.
