Daniel Berlind is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Calabasas, CA with a big, tall body at 6-6, 215 lbs that's going to keep getting stronger in the future. He has very good pitching mechanics for a young pitcher his size. Berlind stays balanced in his delivery, hides the ball well behind a big leg kick and finishes well to the plate. His arm action is clean and easy and as a result Berlind was able to hit his spots and pitch to locations with all his pitches. His fastball topped out at 87 mph but that's just scratching the surface of what he might be throwing in a few years. Berlind varied the speed and break on his breaking ball between a low 70's curveball and an upper 70's slider and showed good feel for spinning the ball. His 77 mph change up had nice sink and fade to it. Berlind as committed to Cal Poly for college. It wouldn't surprise us if he shows up at a ballpark next spring or early in his college career throwing in the lower 90's and really getting the professional scouts excited.

Berlind is an athletic and very projectable 6-6 junior pitcher from California. You see a lot of bodies like this one pitching in the big leagues and they jump out at you on a teenager. Berlind has an easy, balanced delivery with a high leg kick and good flow to the plate that enables him to hit spots with his pitches and command the strike zone. Berlind showed us four solid pitches that all have the potential to improve. His fastball was 81-83 mph with good running action. He threw both a curveball at 64 mph and a slider at 71 mph and also threw a 72 mph change up. Berlind gives the impression that he probably throws harder right now when he’s in mid-season shape and that he has a lot more in his arm than he’s showing. Very high ceiling prospect!
