Corey Hayes is a 2006 shortstop/pitcher from South Broward HS in Hollywood, FL, with a 5'6", 155 lb. frame. Hayes has good defensive actions with nice footwork and soft hands. He made a good sliding play at shortstop during a showcase game. He also has solid arm strength with on-line throws. Hayes has quick actions defensively, as well as at the plate. The right handed hitter has a short bat path with a line drive swing plane. He hits from an open stance that he closes well at contact. His feet sometimes slide out from under him causing him to lose some leverage, but the hitting skills are there. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot and gets good arm side movement on his fastball that topped out at 75 mph. Shows pitchability and knows how to get hitters out. Hayes drops down on his slider and change up giving the hitters a different look. He throws all of his pitches for strikes.
