Jerry Battipaglia is a 2008 RHP with a 6'6'', 220 lb. frame from Katonah, NY who attends Somers HS. He has an extra big and strong build, with plenty of room in his shoulders and hips to get stronger. Battipaglia throws from a slow paced, very deliberate delivery and has a high 3/4's to overhand release point. He frequently didn't get his back bent thru his release point and left the ball up in the zone, but when he did get down thru the ball it had very good downhill plane to the plate. Battipaglia was steady 86-87 mph in the first inning but lost velocity quickly after that. His fastball was pretty straight early but developed plenty of cutting action as he threw more pitches. He could have some slider potential in the future. He also threw his fastball inside frequently. Battipaglia's curveball was 71 mph but he pitched mostly with his fastball. It looked like he mixed in some 2-seam fastballs in the upper 70's at times as a change up but this pitch needs more developing. Battipaglia's size and arm strength give him lots of potential. He is a very good student.
