2004 South Top Prospect Showcase
Cody Deitz is a 2005 catcher from Nederland, TX. Deitz is 6'1" and showed some of the best usable power potential at the showcase. He has good present physical strength in a good athletic 6'1"/195 lb. body. Deitz hits from a wide base with a quiet, smooth load and creates very good bat speed. One thing that Deitz did that most young hitters don’t do with wood is hit and extend through the ball on contact. Deitz didn’t hit any balls out of the Baylor Ballpark, but came close and we’re sure he does it frequently with metal back in Nederland, Texas. Deitz’s catching skills were on the raw side, but he shows some arm strength and quickness behind the plate. He could develop into a highest level catcher, but this is a young prospect whose bat will enable him to play other positions as well. He seems to be a good make up guy who handles himself well on and off the field. Cody is a very strong student.
