Tony Smaldino is a 2008 2B/P with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame from Sonoma CA, who attends Justin-Siena HS. He has an average frame and average build, with room to fill out. Smaldino has a pretty solid base of baseball fundamentals and knows what he is doing on the field. At the plate he showed some bat speed and possesses some present day strength, which may play as a little power down the road. He executed a middle of the field approach in BP, making a lot of solid contact. There is some length to his swing but he does a pretty good job of making it work for himself by have decen timing. He stays behind the ball at contact. In the field Smaldino's hands work and he has a solid arm. His arm stroke is a bit long and may force him to move to the outfield as he plays against higher levels of competition.
