Bobby Drummond is a 2008 right hand hitting third baseman/pitcher from Santiago HS, residing in Corona, CA. He has a 5'11" 175 lb. frame and a strong build, with athletic proportions. Drummond is a very solid baseball player with ability and a hard nosed style of play that helps teams win at the college level. Offensively he is an aggressive hitter, a sort of grinder that can wear down pitchers. He has good bat speed and is a flat swing plane. Drummond is a line drive hitter with some power that will play even more if he develops some lift in his swing. He sees the ball well and should develop into a very good RBI producer in college. His batting practice round stood out in this showcase. Defensively Drummond approaches the game like he does offensively, he attacks it and plays hard. His baseball aptitude is high and combined with his hard nosed style, he can be called a gamer. He made a "wow" type diving play up the 3rd base line and completed the play with the throw and then turned in a sparkling play on a drag bunt that he had to charge and play on the move. His arm tracks well and his hands are good. With his good first step and reactions, Drummond has a chance to be a plus defensive player at the college level. On the mound Drummond has a long arm action with decent arm speed. He has a simple "up, down, out" delivery and threw quality strikes. His fastball topped at 80 mph and had some tilt through the zone. He also threw a good two-plane slider with control. That pitch had nice late action and can be used for outs. Drummond demonstrated his understanding of the game by mixing pitches well, showing a particularly good ability to pitch to the outer part of the plate. He is a good D1 prospect and with his love of playing and style of play, he really fits the college game well.
