Nicholas Piehl is a 2008 1B/P/OF with a 6'5'', 200 lb. frame from Centennial, CO who attends Smoky Hill. Nicholas has a large slender frame with some present strength. He has a lot of athleticism for a player his size, and ran a very impressive 6.97 sixty during the workout. Very good speed for his size. He is a solid defender at first base, and his are is playable and accurate with carry going across the infield. His hands are also very solid and he gets himself to the ball well. At the plate he is a rotational swinger with some bat speed and a sound approach. He hits from a wide stance with his hands set at his shoulders, and he looks to pull the inside pitch. He loads deep and gets to a short stride and has some power potential. On the mound he has a long loose arm that gets to a good release point. Nicholas has a great attitude and is a hard worker. He is also a very good student.

Nicholas Piehl is a 2008 right hand hitting first baseman/right handed pitcher from Smoky Hill HS, residing in Centennial, CO. He has a 6'5" 195 lb. frame and a rangy, strong body that is very noticeable. He has a broad upper body and his frame should fill out quite nicely. Piehl has some ability with the bat that needs to be followed. He has an aggressive swing and possesses some raw power. He swing plane is flat and will allow him to get some backspin and carry off his bat. He is a timing hitter with a sort of high-risk, high-reward type of approach. He should hit some home runs though may not hit for very high average. Defensively he showed good hands around the bag and moved his feet aggressively. He is an adequate defender and a big target to throw across the diamond to. On the mound he has an over the top slot and a pretty compact delivery for a big young player. He gathers himself well over the rubber and has an easy delivery. Piehl sort of approaches pitching like it is a game of catch. He pitches with low effort and threw a lot of strikes. His fastball topped at 75 mph. He spun the curveball pretty well too. Piehl worked as his tempo and trusted his approach. He did a nice job taking advantage of the hitters' overanxious approach against his less than explosive stuff and was kind of fun to watch do that. Long term it is his bat and power potential that are most attractive with this young player.
