2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Zach Sobek is a 2005 RHP with a 6'5'', 190 lb. frame from Chariton IA, who attends Southwestern CC. He has a good pitcher's body with a tall frame and long arms and legs. Sobek has a loose arm and a clean, free arm action. He throws from a leg lift delivery and has lots of drift to the plate that tends to make his arm drag behind. Sobek's fastball was 80-81 mph with some tailing action. He threw a 74 mph slider that had some sharpness when he was on top of it. His 74 mph change up was also a nice pitch with some late movement down in the zone. Sobek did a nice job locating his pitches down and mixing things up. His velocity needs to improve but he has the makings of a good young pitcher.
