2006 Academic Showcase
Cole Arledge is a 2007 C with a 5'11'', 177 lb. frame from Austin TX, who attends St. Stephens HS. He has a medium build with strong hips and legs. Arledge ran the 60 in 7.36 and threw 74 mph during catching drills. His arm strength and carry were solid but his best pop time was 2.19. Arledge's release and arm stroke were very long, which slowed down his times. Everything else about his catching actions, from his footwork to his hands to his effort were prospect level, so he might have been doing something unusual in his release that he normally wouldn't otherwise do because of the showcase envioronment. Arledge's best tool is his bat. He has a strong, powerful swing with very good lower half involvement and attacks the ball with the wood bat. The ball jumps hard and Arledge has some lift in his swing to give him extra base power. Unlike many young hitters who start open, Arledge starts closed so he can get his strong hips into his swing, a smart move. He pulled the ball hard when given the opportunity. Arledge is a hard working player and had the type of do everything attitude you like to see on a young catcher. He is also an excellent student.
