Shands is a strong, mature 6-2, 200 lb senior right handed pitcher from Texas who also shows some skills as a catcher. He throws from a high leg kick delivery with good on-line direction to the plate and a high 3/4's to overhand release point. Shands gets good running action on a 83-85 mph fastball but tended to leave the pitch up in the strike zone. His breaking ball was a 68-71 mph curveball that had a shorter, harder break the harder he threw the pitch. Shands has a strong arm and can overpower some hitters but currently lacks deception in his delivery and in his pitches. As a catcher, Shands threw 74 mph during drills with a best pop time of 1.93. His pop time was the best of the showcase. Shands is a good student.
