2006 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Zach Nitz is a 2007 OF with a 5'10'', 165 lb. frame from West Des Moines IA, who attends Valley HS. He has a lean, athletic build and developing strength. Nitz is an excellent runner at 6.62 in the 60. He charges the ball aggressively in the outfield and has good arm strength and some carry to his throws when he gets balanced and behind the ball. Nitz has the speed to cover the gaps in centerfield. Offensively, Nitz hits out of a spread stance with high hands and gets to his front side early. He lacks hand strength right now to drive the ball but makes contact and fits the leadoff profile well. He should be able to steal plenty of bases when he gets on. Nictz is a good student who should keep improving as he gets stronger.
