Brandon Howell is a 2007 MIF/P with a 5'10'', 180 lb. frame from Muncie IN, who attends Wapahani HS. He has the tools to play second base and was solid defensively during the showcase games. Howell showed nice hands and good lateral movement, especially to his left. He has the body control to make difficult plays and looks more comfortable when he's moving for balls than when he has to wait for them. Offensively, Howell hits from a closed stance and has some upper body strength to create bat speed. He loads well, getting his weight back to move through the ball, but tends to cut himself off and come off the ball early instead of extending through the ball. Howell's swing stays level. He has the physical tools to keep improving as a hitter. Howell ran the 60 in 7.33. He came into pitch an inning and threw 7 pitches to retire the side. His fastball was 69-72 mph and he threw a 61 mph curveball. Howell is a good student.
