Michael McDonald is a 2007 1B/P with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Miami FL, who attends Coral Reef HS. He has a tall , athletic build with some present strength. McDonald ran the 60 in 7.89 and threw 72 mph during infield drills from first base. He's a right handed hitter with a wide, no load approach at the plate. McDonald has quick hands and gets the bat head into the hitting zone quickly. He has a line drive swing plane and stays inside and on the ball well. Right now, McDonald gets very little lower half involvement in his swing, which takes away bat speed and the leverage that his tall body could give him on contact. He has bat head skills now but could really improve with some adjustments. McDonald also pitched, showing a clean pitching mechanics and a good idea of how to pitch. His fastball topped out at 79 mph and he also threw a nice 70 mph change up. McDonald is an excellent student.
