2006 California Underclass
Michael Tevlin is a 2007 C from Billings West HS, residing in Billings, MT, with a 5'11" 170 lb. frame. He has a strong and athletic type build that looks to be an asset for him as a catching prospect. A left handed hitter, Tevlin hits from an open stance. His stance and mannerisms bring to mind Johnny Damon in many ways, it is clear thathe patterns himself after Damon (at least as of January 2006). Tevlin has some bat speed and at times got through the ball well. In general he showed himself to be a pull hitter and flashed some gap power potential in the BP session. He looks capable of a hitter that can produce some results because the ball spins well off his bat and his swing plane showed some promise. On Tevlin showed a good and accurate arm. The ball exited his hand well with pop times ranging from 2.03-2.09 in the workout. His throwing is ahead of his receiving ability at this point. However, as a left handed hitter with some potential for a little power and a possessing a good arm, Tevlin should be followed by college coaches. He is going to need to coaching and more reps against higher level competition than he is likely to get in Montana.
