Ryan Vander May is a 2007 switch-hitting catcher from Seton Hall Prep, residing in West Caldwell, NJ. Vander May has a thick and strong build on his 6'2" 175 lb. frame. He is built like a catcher, durable and strong. Of particular note about Vander May is that on a daily basis at his high school he gets to catch two of the nation's premier arms, Rick Porcello and Evan Danieli, both Aflac All-Americans. He should enter college ball well prepared to catch sooner rather than later. As a hitter Vander May showed a pull side approach with hips that tended to clear early. From the right side he showed some strength and with a timing hitter type approach. His body is aggressively involved in his swing. From the left side, he showed some bat speed and also was aggressive with his body in his swing, which had some length. Behind the plate he does not hoave standout tools but showed the ability to be an average defensive college catcher, with an average arm and decent pop times. He ran 4.52 home/1st from the left side and posted a 7.39 60. Vander May is going to have a chance to be seen by every crosschecker in the nation and with a big spring or his best days at the right time, he could have an interesting spring in terms of attention from pro clubs. Otherwise, he is a college bound catcher.

Ryan Vander May is a 2007 C/1B from Seton Hall Prep in West Caldwell, NJ, with a 6'1'', 200 lb. frame. Vander May was named to the Top Prospect Team at the event, and showed plus arm strength from behind the plate with accurate throws. His arm strength and quickness allow him to produce pop times consistently under 2.00. He worked well behind the plate, and has a strong a durable body to hold up at the position. At the plate he is a switch hitter who is very selective at the plate. He won't swing at bad pitches, but when he does swing he swings aggressively and creates bat speed causing the ball to jump at contact. He shows power from both sides of the plate, and he is a legitimate switch hitter who should be a run producer at the next level. He really likes the ball on the inner half, but when he learns to drive the outside pitch the other way he will be a complete hitter. Vander May is a must follow with upside, and he is also a good student.
