Ray Hanson is a 2008 RHP with a 6'8'', 195 lb. frame from Long Beach, CA who attends Wilson HS. He has an extra tall and lanky build with good upper half looseness and some strength in his core and lower half. Hanson has a low effort delivery with good direction to the plate and a long, extended arm stroke. His arm works smoothly. Hanson's fastball was 88-90 mph and was pretty straight with good downward angle. He did a good job working the outside half of the plate to right handed hitters with his fastball. His best off speed pitch was an upper 70's split change that had good arm speed and feel. He threw a upper 70's slider that is still developing consistency and quality. Scouts will anxiously project Hanson and his velocity due to his size and low effort mechanics. He has made a verbal commitment to Arizona State.

Ray Hanson is a 2008 RHP/1B with a 6'8'', 195 lb. frame from Long Beach CA, who attends Wilson HS. Hanson has a long, lanky build that is going to get scout's attention right away. He has a long, multi-piece arm action but keeps his weight back well with a big coil in his delivery while his arm is working its way through. Hanson does a good job throwing on a downhill plane and is smooth and extended out front. Hanson's fastball was 87-89 mph and it came out of his hand easily. He showed very good command potential with his fastball. Hanson's curveball has a slurvy 10/4 type of break and was big and early. He still has some work to do on this pitch but it shows potential. Hanson fielded his position well and showed the kind of body control in his delivery that makes you feel good about his athletic ability. All the signs point to Hanson continuing to keep improving and he has a huge ceiling. He'll be a national level follow on a high school team filled with similar level prospects. Hanson is also a good student.
