Ryan Cunningham is a 2009 OF/IF from Alta Loma HS, residing in Alta Loma, CA, with a 5'11" 150 lb. frame. He has a good baseball body and likely will continue grow into his frame. Remember, this is a young player. A right handed hitter, Cunningham his from a square and wide stance. His lower half triggers his swing well, a good indication of a solid future as a hitting prospect. Cunningham looked to be a contact/spray type hitter and stayed pretty short to the ball, while staying in the middle of the field for the most part in game situations. His hand release works and through the zone his swing path is flat. Cunningham lets the ball travel and will be able to handle different pitches as he continues to develop. On defense in the outfield he set up to the ball well and showed good hands. The ball exited his hand well and in general showed good defensive fundamentals. We also noted a nice bounce in his step. As a freshman ('09) his grade needs to be taken with a grain of salt, too early to really peg this player with so much baseball ahead of him. He is likely to be out on the showcase circuit and playing summer baseball so college coaches should check back on him in the coming years.
