Kasey Reyes is a 5-11, 155 lb junior shortstop from Iowa with a very young body and face. He looks like a sophomore or freshman more than a junior. Reyes is a very advanced defensive player, though. He has quick, sure hands and fields everything cleanly. He's the type of infielder who never seems to get a bad hope because he's always moving through the ball with good balance. Reyes' release is quick. The only thing short defensively for Reyes is his raw arm strength, which may move him over to second base at the college level. He played some second at the showcase and showed excellent range and the ability to turn the double play. Offensively, Reyes showed some bat speed and gap to gap power potential in batting practice. He gets good extension through the ball and can pull it with some authority. He has some lift in his swing. Reyes is going to benefit from more overall strength on the offensive side of the game, especially against live pitching, but the promise and base skills are there. This is a nice looking young player who will be able to play at the college level and contribute at a difficult defensive position.
