Matt Richardson is a 2008 SS/P with a 6'1'', 177 lb. frame from Lake Mary, FL who attends Lake Mary HS. He has a young looking, lean lively build with lots of projection. Richardson is an athletic infielder with excellent arm strength and plenty of quickness for the middle infield. He threw 90 mph during drills from shortstop and has a quick transfer and release that maximizes his already strong arm. His first step quickness will enable him to get to lots of balls. Richardson didn't run the 60 but was 4.14 and 4.20 to first base from the right side, which is plenty quick. He will have to continue working on keeping his hands soft fielding balls. Offensively, Richardson has a calm and simple hitting approach from a spread stance. He throws his hands hard at the ball and has a quick, line drive swing with some bat speed. Hard stuff doesn't bother him, he squared up well on 90 and 93 mph fastballs. Richardson doesn't have much power now but that might come with strength. Richardson also took a turn on the mound and looked like he could be a top level pitching prospect if he did that full time. He was 90-92 mph on his fastball with a smooth looking arm action and the makings of a nice curveball at 76 mph. Richardson is a high ceiling talent with lots of growth potential who has been overlooked by some to this point. He is also a good student.
