Derek Giesking is a 2009 middle infielder/right handed pitcher from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a 5'5", 120 lb. frame. Giesking is a young player who showed solid actions defensively with good hands and footwork. His arm plays better at second base currently, but that could easily change as he adds strength. Giesking looks to get the ball in play with a line drive swing plane. He takes a long stride from a square stance, and uses the whole field. He pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm arch on the back side. His fastball topped out at 63 mph, and his curveball was 57 mph. Giesking had an 11 to 5 break on his curveball with some depth. Giesking just needs time to add more strength to his frame.
