Zak Ratko is a 2005 first baseman/third baseman from Shorewood, Illinois, with a very projectable body at 6'2", 177 lbs. Ratko was one of the better defensive first baseman at the event. His feet work well around the bag, and he has solid fielding actions. Offensively, he is a right handed hitter with a good solid approach. Ratko has quiet hands with a good load, and stays balanced through his swing. Presently he is a line drive hitter that should gain more raw power as his body continues to mature. He did rip a ground rule double down the left field line during one of the showcase games. Ratko uses the entire field, and his bat and body are very projectable. Ratko also runs much better on the bases then his 60 time might suggest. Ratko is a good player with his best still to come. He is an outstanding student.

Zak Ratko is a lean bodied 2005 third baseman from Shorewood, IL, with very good physical projectability. His defense continues to improve both in how his hands and feet work, and in his arm strength. He now shows solid college level defensive ability. We’ve seen Ratko hit frequently in the past and know this is the best part of his overall game. He didn’t have his normal rhythm and bat speed in Waco, and it looked like his hand position was different on his load and swing; much closer and tighter to his body as if someone had coached him to shorten his swing. Ratko did flash his bat speed against live pitching, but his big future tool is his ability to drive the ball hard with good bat speed and extension. Hitting still remains his most obvious tool as he can hit the ball hard to all fields against good pitching. Zak is also an excellent student.

Zak Ratko is a 2005 3B/1B from Shorewood, IL. Ratko has improved significantly since we saw him last in October. He’s grown at least an inch and added some good strength throughout his body and is very projectable to end up as a strong 6'3", 200 lb. corner infielder. Ratko’s hands and feet work well enough to play third at the next level and his arm strength has noticeably improved, although he still has an unorthodox arm action. Ratko’s main tool will be his power, though. He generates good bat speed and has very nice extension to his swing and knocked a number of balls off the outfield fences during both batting practice and during game competition. He is slowly turning into a nice prospect especially with the bat. He could develop as an infielder, but his bat will play at 1B at the next level. He's an excellent make up kid and he is a very good student.

Zak is a young 05 3B who has some hitting ability. He swings the bat well and has a good feel for the game. He is a very smart athlete who works hard to keep improving. He has a passion for the game and you never want to discount those type. His tools are below average presently, but he keeps on getting better, He is just a young 05 so he has lots of time and a nice baseball body at 6'0/170 to work with. He's a top student 4.0 and 1220 SAT.
