Van Zandt is a lean and slender 6-0, 160 lb senior middle infielder from Texas. Van Zandt's arm strength is best suited for second base but he played plenty of shortstop during the games and made all the routine plays. His best defensive tool are his quick feet which gives him nice range and makes more plays "routine". At the plate Van Zandt has a very sound fundamental approach and very good rhythm to the ball from a balanced load. If every hitter used this approach there would be a lot more good hitters in baseball. Van Zandt made consistent solid contact up the middle of the field but isn't strong enough right now to really drive the ball with any authority. Overall, Van Zandt is a nice player with very good instincts and an understanding of how to play the game. Watch him closely for future strength gains. He's also a very good student.
