Thomas Crews is a 5'10" 165 pound 2007 middle infielder and third baseman from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Miami, Florida who was named to the Top Prospect Team. He has a strong frame with good athleticism. Thomas has good actions in the field. He has nice footwork and soft hands with a quick exchange. He showed good arm strength by throwing 74 mph across the infield during the workout. Crews is a switch hitter who has a little quicker bat from the left side than the right. He has a slightly open stance and stays back on off speed pitches very well. Thomas is strong enough to lift the ball and shows good power potential. He has good balance in his swing and gets good extension and he turns on the ball very well. He has some good hitting tools. Thomas will get stronger and should hit at the next level. He is also a good student with a 3.5 gpa.

Crews is a switching hitting sophomore infielder from Miami. He has good overall body life and some quickness that should improve as he gets older and stronger. Defensively, Crews’ best tool is his feet. He gets to a lot of balls and has good balance when he reaches them. He has developing arm strength and a low, slinging arm stroke that may be best suited for second base in the future. Crews also might consider getting a smaller infield glove than the one he used in Fort Myers. Offensively, Crews looks like he has above average hand/eye coordination and some bat head skills, especially from the left side. He made solid consistent contact throughout the event and had three game hits. Crews did an especially good job of pulling his hands through on inside pitches and getting the bat head to the ball, something we don’t frequently see in younger kids swinging wood. He’ll need more strength to start driving the ball, but we liked what we saw of his bat. Crews is a good student, too.
