2003 Northeast Top Prospect Showcase
Smith is an "04" OF/1B from Ontario with big league tools. At 6'2/200 he looks athletic strong. He runs very well and has a big league arm from the outfield (89) mph in Wareham. His arm action is smooth, his throws showed excellent carry and accuracy. Almost makes you think he should be a LHP. He's also a good outfielder and a smooth 1B. Now the best part, this kid is one outstanding hitting prospect. His LH bat features a good approach, nice balance, a beautiful swing, MLB bat speed with just a bit of loft and a strong finish. He has serious long ball power potential. He has straight away power and though we haven't seen it, we are sure he has hit some monster shots with that swing. Tim should be scouted heavily right up to the June draft.
