Atchley is a slender 5-8 right handed hitting outfielder from Kentucky. He ran the 60 in 7.25 and threw 76 mph from the outfield during drills. Atchley has good, quick athletic actions for his size and some present strength. His speed gives him good range in the outfield and he showed an interest in playing the speed game, even bunting for a hit once, a showcase rarity. Atchley keeps his swing short by widening his stance and makes consistent contact and gets out of the box quickly, running 4.42 on one ground ball. It would be interesting to see Atchley play second base at some point to see if he has the skills for that position. Atchley is a good student as well.

Shawn Atchley is a 2006 outfielder from Bowling Green, KY, with a young athletic 5'8" frame. He has very good quickness, especially down the line to first base, and should develop into a big league average runner with maturity. Despite his size and age, Atchley handled the wood bat well in batting practice and games. He has a good approach to the ball and a short line drive swing with some good bat speed. He doesn’t try to do anything he isn’t physically capable of and maximizes his tools offensively. He should develop into a top of the order hitter who gets on base and uses his speed to disrupt the defense. He has excellent instincts in the OF and his arm plays. His best years are ahead as he grows stronger. He's a good student.
