Ryan McGrath is a 2007 3B/SS from Newtown HS in Newtown, CT with a 6'1", 220 lb. frame. Ryan has a thick well developed build at 220 lbs. with his best tool being his raw power potential at the plate. He has solid speed for his build, running a 7.43 on a slow track. In the box Ryan has a lot of movement before hitting the ball and needs to simplify his approach. When his timing is on he shows plenty of raw power to play at the college level. He is a raw hitter at this point, but has the tools to become a good college power hitter. In the field Ryan looks the best at third base as he has smooth actions with an arm that works well. He can be a little long getting rid of the ball so third base appears to be his best option. Ryan had a brief stiff on the mound where he showed a solid CB, but was fairly jerky in his mechanics. Ryan is a strong high school player with the raw tools to become a solid mid-level college player.

At the plate, McGrath starts with an average width base and swings from a crouch. He uses a high stride and strides toward the plate. He has bat wrap and throws his hands to the baseball well. He throws the barrel to the ball well and has bat speed. He has present gap to gap power with more power potential. McGrath pitches from a side arm slot and maintains good balance through his delivery. He has an online finish and a short finish. He has solid control and armside run on his fastball. McGrath is a very good student.

Ryan McGrath is a 2007 3B/SS/P from Newtown High School in Newtown, CT, with a 6'1'', 200 lb. frame. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. McGrath is a big and strong player with good upside. Defensively he has nice footwork with good actions at third base. Nice hands for a third baseman with a quick transfer and solid arm strength at 79 mph. At the plate he is right handed hitter with raw power and strength in his swing. He has a line drive swing plane and stays balanced throughout his swing. He overpowered some balls during batting practice, but really showed his hitting skills during the showcase games hitting balls hard. He projects to be a middle of the order run producer at the next level. McGrath also pitched at the event and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. His fastball topped out at 80 mph with solid life. He also mixed in a 65 mph curveball. McGrath has good upside at the plate and needs to be followed. He is also an outstanding student.
