Ryan Laing is a 2007 1B with a 6'1'', 220 lb. frame from Rancho Palos Verdes CA, who attends Palos Verdes Peninsula. Laing has a strong body with a good build. Defensively, Laing has nice hands at 1B and can make the picks. He moves around the base well and has athletic actions for a big strong kid. At the plate, Laing has a powerful swing with big time power potential to all fields. He has present power to all fields and can hit the ball where it's pitched. Laing has a compact stroke and stays smooth through finish. He has quick hands with good bat speed. Laing can handle wood well and will definitely handle aluminum at the next level. Very good student.

Ryan Laing is a 2007 1B from Douglas HS, residing in Minden, NV, with a 6'1" 228 lb. frame. Laing was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. Has a mature and physical body with thick proportions. Laing is physical with the bat. When the barrel gets there on time, the ball makes a + exit of the bat. He uses his hands well and has an aggressive approach. He tends to dive into the pitch, so expect him to get dosed his share of times. When Laing was balanced, he was easy to the ball. He has the look of an RBI type guy with good power to all fields. Reminiscent in some ways of Casey Haerther. On defense he stays low on grounders and showed a decent backhand. He was ok wiht his set-up to the ball and looked capable of making plays in his area. Consider Laing a good D1 follow for the power in his bat.

Ryan Laing is a 6'1" 228 pound 2007 first baseman from Minden, Nevada who attends Douglas High School. He has a taller frame with a heavy thick strong build. Ryan has a good glove at first base and picks balls out of the dirt very well. He glides to the ball very well. Laing's best tool is his bat by far. This kid can flat out hit. He has very good raw power with plus bat speed. Ryan shows big time loft power which included a long home run during one of the games. He stays inside the ball very well for a power hitter and also has a short compact swing. Most of his power is to his pull side, which is light tower power. He does have power to the other way as well but if you make a mistake inside on him, he is going to make you pay. He is a middle of the order hitter who will be a big time run producer. Ryan is also an excellent student who has been part of a national championship team six times and was the MVP on two of them.

Ryan Laing is a 2007 first baseman from Sparks, Nevada with a thick build that shows very good present strength at 6'0", 215 pounds. He hits from a wide base with a long swing plane and a high extended finish. He has very strong hands and generates good bat speed. He showed very good raw power with natural loft. The ball comes off the bat true and straight. Laing changes the spin and creates very good carry. Defensively, he shows good movement to the ball for a big man with soft hands. His arm strength was 77 mph across the infield, and he ran the 60 in 7.68. Laing is a very good hitter with present raw power. He will be one to watch in the future.

Ryan is a sophomore first baseman from Nevada with excellent present strength. Some 215 pound kids Ryan's age look soft but there isn't any softness to Ryan's body. Ryan showed his present power at the showcase, hitting a few bombs in batting practice and hitting a home run against live game pitching as well. He has the swing path and approach to hit the ball to all fields and the ability to reach the fences everywhere as well. Ryan also acts like a confident hitter, which we like to see. Defensively, Ryan has good actions around first base, with good side to side mobility. He won't be a liability that a coach is hiding at first so his bat will be in the lineup. Ryan is a very good student and we'll enjoy watching him develop over the next couple of years.
