Atkinson is a 6-3, 210 lb first baseman from North Carolina with a strong and mature body. He ran the 60 in 7.98 and threw 76 mph during infield drills. Atkinson showed good defensive actions at first base during the games and is a good target for his his infielders. Atkinson took a good batting practice, hitting from an upright stance with no stride. He has an upper cut swing and good extension through the ball. His size and strength gives him some raw power when he gets his hands extended.. Against live pitching Atkinson didn't look like he was making adjustments to different pitches and was late to the ball. He has the physical ability to develop as a hitter when he gets the bat head into the zone quicker. Atkinson also pitched an inning, throwing 75 mph with a 68 mph curveball. He's an outstanding student.

Atkinson is a young "06" 1B/RHP from North Carolina. At 6'2/215 he is a big strong guy, but not fat in the least. On the mound: Throws FB (2 and 4 seam), CH, Cutter. He shows mound composure and locates pitches well, and has pretty good mechanics. He throws from a high 3/4 slot with a funky, rigid arm action. Fastball is 75-77 with slight glove side life. Needs to start developing a breaking ball. Change is below average at this time. With a good pitching coach he could really develop. At the plate: Very nice big body 06 who will make people talk. Stand up approach with very little load. Balanced throughout swing with very strong hands. This guy is going to hit and hit big time. Good power swing. Keep an eye on this bat!
