Blanke is a 5-11 junior catcher/right handed pitcher from Florida who also played some infield and outfield. We liked him best as a pitcher. Blanke pitched 2 innings and showed an advanced feel for pitching. His fastball was 75-77 mph and he turned over a 2 seamer at 71-72. His 65-67 mph curveball had good break to it and he used all his pitches with purpose. Blanke should be an effective high school pitcher who could continue to improve his raw stuff. As a position player, Blanke’s best tool is his bat. He takes a hard, aggressive swing and showed some power potential on pitches in his zone. He threw 71 during catching drills with a best pop time of 2.02. He only needs to improve his quickness to step up his progress.

Blanke is a sophomore third baseman/catcher from Florida. He showed us a promising bat during BP, with a smooth, level swing that enabled him to make consistent hard contact. He tends to reach for the ball but when he stayed back, Blanke showed some power for his age that could continue to develop. Defensively, Blanke had a quick release behind the plate, which enabled him to post very good pop times for a sophomore. He still needs work on his receiving and blocking skills. His arm strength was better during infield drills and he made several strong, on-line throws. Probably the most important thing Blanke can do to further his baseball career is get on a serious conditioning and strengthening program. He has some good physical tools. Blanke also threw a couple of innings in relief and threw well. He topped out at 78 mph with a 71 mph slurve. Blanke is a very good student.
