Matthew James is a 2008 3B/P/IF with a 6'3'', 205 lb. frame from New Braunfels TX, who attends Canyon. James has a good sized frame with a good baseball players build. Defensively, James is light on his feet as he approaches ground balls and showed good agility. He has a loose arm with a quick arm action. James makes the plays defensively and flashed good soft hands in both the workout and the games. At the plate, James starts from a wide stance and swings from a crouch. He starts his swing with a no stride approach and keeps his bat on a a good line drive path to contact. James made consistent good contact and maintains good balance through his swing. He showed bat speed with good raw power. On the mound, James pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a slight across the body delivery. He showed good life on his fastball and has projectable velocity. James is a very good student.
