Matt Goodyear is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Melbourne, FL with a solid, mature at 6-0, 198 lbs. He has a very long arm circle in back with a big seperation between his front and back sides and takes a big, long stride to the plate in his delivery. Goodyear has plus arm spee and a cross body release. His fastball in Atlanta was 84-86 mph with good tailing action.. His best pitch was a big breaking 11/5 curveball at 71 mph. Goodyear also threw a couple of 69 mph change ups. Goodyear has good poise on the mound and has command of his pitches. He's a solid student off the field.

Matt Goodyear is a 2006 RHP from Melbourne, FL. Goodyear is a good prospect as both a right handed pitcher and as a third baseman. He has a mature and strong build for his age at 6'0", 205 lbs., with broad, thick shoulders and a low waist. On the mound, Goodyear has a deliberate, calm delivery with a long arm stroke. He sat consistently at 84 mph during three innings of work, topping out a couple of times at 85 mph. Goodyear’s best pitch was a 71-73 mph curveball that had a sharp downward break to it. Goodyear’s arm strength shows even better on defense, where his throws have present big league average velocity and carry from third. Goodyear wasn’t a good runner in the 60, but showed quick feet and good range at third base. At the plate, Goodyear took one of the best batting practices of any hitter at the Showcase. He has very good hand strength and a short, quick swing that can produce serious top spin on the ball. Goodyear also showed the ability to hit the ball a long way when he hit through it. He looks like he has a solid idea how to hit.
