2003 Northeast Top Prospect Showcase
Gilbert is an "04" RHP/1B with a great body. At 6'3/195 he is athletic and strong with room to grow even more. He runs well and has a strong arm. He has a nice smooth swing and creates bat speed. Definitely has some power potential with wood. We liked him even better on the mound. He topped out at 83 mph, but there's much more in him. He has a quick arm and his fastball shows lots of movement. Looks like he throws both Curve and slider. Maybe they're the same pitch, but the curve ball was upper 60s and the slider was 72 mph. Anyway they looked like different pitches, both with potential. He competes and shows good command of all his pitches. His arm action and size are very intriguing.
