Mark Ortega is a lean athletic 6'2/185 INF from Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Ortega solidified his reputation as one of the top defensive players in the country during the game competition at the National with several sterling plays. He projects to add strength and power to his solid line drive swing as he matures. He has a perfect MLB type body with some projection left. He has a nice strong fluid arm and shows outstanding inf actions. He has excellent quick hands and very good instincts. He runs OK but that is his weakest tool as of now. He is a big time player who could gain some serious high draft interest, especially if he shows scouts the hitting ability that we've seen in the past. Mark is a very good student. He was selected to the AFLAC All American Team.

Mark Ortega -- Of all the prospects at the showcase, Ortega might have had the most polished and professional actions and skills. He’s a junior infielder from Florida who can play shortstop well but projects out as a third baseman in the future. At 6-2, 185 lbs., Ortega has a very nice baseball body that’s slender and strong at the same time and he should be able to add good baseball strength just through maturity and playing. Ortega hits from a professional style set up with good load and stride, good torque from his lower half and very good bat speed. Ortega showed us the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields and will be the type who hits right away at the next level. Defensively, Ortega is fluid and quick with his feet and hands and has very good arm strength. In fact, Ortega is so balanced in all his actions that the game just looks easy to him. We’re sure that’s a product of plenty of hard work, but he’s an excellent natural athlete as well. Mark is a good student and one of the top "05" prospects in the nation..

Mark can play at the very highest levels . He has outstanding actions and is very smooth in the infield. He has a strong arm and good soft hands. Already possessing a MLB body and only an "05" he's going to create lots of pro interest over the next couple years. He can hit and has power potential with the wood. Needs to improve his straight away running speed and he has it all. One of the better 05's in the country!

Excellent "05" INF who does everything well. Great baseball body, kind of Arod looking. Big time actions with nice soft hands, good feet and good arm. He shows outstanding hitting ability and will end up hitting for power. The ball jumps off his wood bat in a hurry. Keep a very close eye on this kid, he can play.

Ortega is a projectable infielder with some good defensive actions now and potential to improve. He showed a decent arm from SS but on the mound we saw him use his body better and throw in the upper 70’s. He has a tall, thin frame and should grow into it nicely and get stronger in every aspect of his game. He showed good hitting ability and proved he can swing it.
