Luke Martin is a 2006 C/MIF/UT from Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia, with a 5'10'', 170 lb. frame. He has a compact body with present strength. Behind the plate he has quiet actions and a strong arm (77 mph) with online carry to the second base bag. Martin has nice and quick footwork that allows him to block balls in the dirt well. He is a plus defensive catcher who works hard behind the plate. Offensively he is a right handed hitter with a big leg kick. He has good bat speed and a line drive swing plane that is short to the ball. Martin makes solid contact with good hand strength and leverage in his swing. Currently he is a gap to gap hitter with more power to come. Martin is the type of player that sprints on and off the field and plays the game with great energy. He is fun to watch and is an outstanding student as well.

Martin is a 5-10 right handed hitting junior catcher from Georgia. He hits out of a no load, no stride approach and has the hand and upper body strength to pull this off. He generates some bat speed with a very level, line drive stroke that stays right on the plane of the ball for a long time. Martin hit just about every ball right on the nose in batting practice and then followed up by going 3-6 in games, including a triple up the gap. We doubt if Martin strikes out very often at all with his approach and probably will stay a high average hitter at the next level. With a little more rhythm and hip turn he could learn to loft the ball. Defensively, Martin shifts and blocks well. He tends to stand up straight to throw but despite a present below average arm still kept his pop times right around 2.00. Martin is a good overall athlete who runs well for a catcher. Martin is an excellent student.
