2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Roberts is a 6-1 junior infielder/right handed pitcher from Florida with a nice projectable athletic body. He showed us some interesting things on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Roberts has smooth hands and very good arm strength across the diamond. His footwork is balanced but his overall tools may be more the type suited for third base as he progresses. Roberts arm strength and smooth exchanges will enable him to play deep. His arm strength also showed well on the mound. Roberts throws from a low ¾’s arm slot and generates very good running movement on a fastball that reached 84 mph. Roberts struggled some with his command and likely hasn’t pitched much, but he has talent worth following and developing as a pitcher. As a hitter, Roberts had a good fundamental approach and balanced line drive swing. His lanky body doesn’t allow him to generate real bat head speed with wood right now but the basics are there to improve greatly with more strength. Roberts is also a very good student.
