Kevin Smith is a 2007 C with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Winfield IL, who attends Wheaton North HS. He has a lean athletic build and the chance to get stronger. Smith threw 72 mph during catching drills and had a best pop time of 2.03. He has quick feet and transfers and will improve his pop times by cleaning up his mechanics out front. Smith also played some outfield during games and showed nice range going back on the ball. Offensively, Smith has a balanced lower half in his set up with busy hands. He takes an aggressive line drive swing and drove the ball hard to all fields both in games and in BP. He likes the ball low and gets the bat head down to the ball well. Smith's bat projects well to the next level, especially for a catcher. Smith is also a very good student.

Kevin Smith is a 2007 C/3B from Wheaton North HS in Winfield, IL, with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame and a good strong athletic build. Smith showed very good arm strength, throwing 78 mph in the catching drills with excellent on line carry. His release was slow and deliberate and can easily be speeded up to improve his pop times. Smith showed good blocking skills during the games and has some agility behind the plate. He ran the 60 in 7.71. Smith sets up at the plate with a deep load with his hands and a leg lift trigger and stride. He has good rhythm into the ball and nice strength in his swing. Smith's bat speed is very good and he has a bit of loft in his swing for power potential. He made solid contact to all fields and showed present gap to gap power. Overall, Smith has well rounded skills on offense and defense and the kind of body and present strength that college coaches are looking for. He should be a good player at the next level and should be followed closely.
