Outstanding defensive tools, very fluid and balanced, quick release and arm strength from any angle, big league actions right now, defensive side of the game comes very easily, pure Major League shortstop. Simple contact approach hitting, limited flow through contact, quick hands, whippy bat speed, handles the barrel well, plus runner. Very good student, signed with Florida International.

Julius Gaines is a 2011 SS with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Locust Grove, GA who attends Luella HS. Slender quick twitch type build. Outstanding defensive actions at SS, bounce in step, always balanced, plus smooth towards the ball, quick release with low effort arm, throws carry, should be able to play SS at the highest levels. 6.58 runner. Rotational swing, flashes some late bat speed/hand quickness, bat a bit heavy now, some lift/extension out front, has a good feel for squaring up, should keep improving offensively with more strength. Will always play because of his defense. Could be the biggest surprise in this class. Almost an Aflac selection. Very good student.
